Carol Ann Duffy

Carol Ann Duffy

Carol Ann Duffy is one of Britain’s best-loved poets, and has published over 30 volumes of poetry for both adults and children, as well as writing for the stage and opera. Born in Glasgow in 1955, she has been writing and performing poetry since she was a teenager, winning the Whitbread, Forward and TS Eliot prizes for her work along the way. Carol Ann was recently appointed Poet Laureate, the first female poet to receive this honour. She lives in Manchester where she is professor of poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University, although she has confessed to writing much of her work on her local park bench. Perhaps this comes as no surprise, given the unique earthiness and immediacy of her writing, which is both highly accessible while possessing a shining lyrical beauty. She has said of her writing that it is; “a way of explaining the world through language to myself.” We are thrilled to have received Carol Ann’s blessing to display her words on our new tea towel.
